BUG had made it a priority to support people who have been discriminated against on the basis of ascribed ethnicity or religion when entering leisure facilities. BUG has already supported several legal cases on which you will find further information below under 'closed cases'.

Moreover, in a case in Bamberg we have been able to make a change in the admission policy of a club even without a law suit (learn more here).

Have you been discriminated against?

BUG is prepared to support other young people that have been turned away from nightclubs or sports clubs, where there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that this was done on the basis of their background, skin colour or religion. BUG can offer legal aid as counsel in court under certain conditions. more...

Amendments to the protection from discrimination at regional state level

In December 2015, Bremen's state parliament announced as the first federal state a change in its Licensing Act, so that discrimination on grounds of (ascribed) ethnic origin, disability, sexual or gender identity and religion or belief when accessing club can be punished with fines up to 5,000 euros.

Likewise, Lower Saxony's state parliament adopted an amendment to the Licensing Act at the end of 2015 in order to sanction discrimination in access to clubs. BUG has published a press release on this.

Press reports concerning the amendments can be found here, here, here and here.
