CEDAW Report Germany 2023

For the 85th session of CEDAW, BUG prepared an Alternative Report on intersectional discrimination against Muslim women. It was presented by BUG in Geneva on May 8, 2023. The report is available here.

CEDAW (Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women) is a United Nations Committee, which advocates for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. The report highlights that women wearing headscarves in Germany are hindered in certain professions, for example in the medical and educational field or in courts. In addition, Muslim women are victims of hate crimes and discrimination, particularly in schools and the workplace.

The CEDAW Committee's concluding observations can be found here. References to discrimination against Muslim women, as presented by BUG in its shadow report, were included in the concluding observations.

BUG has issued a press release on the CEDAW Committee's concluding observations regarding discrimination against Muslim women in Germany.
