Canadian law does not enshrine associated discrimination at the federal level. Nevertheless, 7 out of 13 Canadian provinces and territories have included associated discrimination in their anti-discrimination laws. However, these sections are rarely used, as cases of associated discrimination are often tried as intersectional discrimination. For example, discrimination claims brought by persons caring for persons with disabilities often take the form of an intersectional discrimination claim based on the protected characteristics of disability and marital status.
