The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is legally binding for all EU Member States since the Lisbon Treaty was put into force. Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights contains prohibitions of discrimination on grounds of sex, the "race", colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age or sexual orientation.
