On Wednesday, 12 June 2013, the networking conference ‘Structural/institutional racism in the police – What can civil-society actors do?’ took place at the House of Democracy and Human Rights in Berlin.

The conference was organised by the Amadeo Antonio Foundation, Berlin; the Bureau for the Implementation of Equal Treatment (BUG), Berlin; the Institute for Migration and Racism Studies (iMiR), Hamburg; and the Turkish Community in Germany, Berlin.

The goal of the networking conference was to gather non-governmental organisations, people from the academic spectrum and experts in the subject area, in order to support a (to the greatest possible extent) co-ordinated course of action with regard to racism in the police. The event placed emphasis on networking opportunities, abstaining as much as possible from podium discussions.

At the conference, specific agreements were made to promote co-operation between German NGOs on the subjects of racist crimes, racial profiling and independent police complaints commissions.
